Jacksonville, FL

Scott is in Jacksonville for the next couple of weeks to get (or at least knock a big chunk out of) his flight instructor ratings. The schedule is pretty tight (7am-9pm every day for 14 days straight) so with weather and examiner's schedules it's possible he won't get all of his check rides before he leaves, but he can always either go back to Jacksonville on a weekend or two to finish or maybe schedule them for when he gets back and take them in San Antonio if need be. Renee went along with him this past weekend before class started Monday so it was at least a small vacation.
Jacksonville downtown.
We went to Singleton's, reputedly the best seafood place in Jacksonville, for lunch one day. On a previous visit a few years ago Scott had gotten a tour of their fishing boat.
The original owner of Singleton's (it's now owned by his son, we think) had a hobby of building wooden boats. There is a whole room full of them, easily a hundred of varying shapes and sizes, on display off the restaurant. Very cool!
We did get a chance to go to the beach and even went swimming for awhile, which was great. This is Scott about 10 seconds after Renee ruined his plans for a tan by liberally spraying SPF 50 all over him. He'll thank me later.
The pier goes quite a ways out into the water.
View from the pier back to the beach. People mostly seemed to be catching sharks.
One such casualty.
Good times!

Grounded

Scott has less than two weeks before his CFI school and had planned to use them to brush up on instrument flying and maneuvers, but someone hit a very large bird and it's out until July. Reason #42 why we need our own plane.
