1/20/08 Flight

We flew from Lakefront Airport in New Orleans to Poplarville, Mississippi this morning so Scott could log some cross country time. It was a beautiful day to fly, sunny and little wind.

Takeoff...Mardis Gras floats crossing the Twinspan bridge by our apartment. They were travelling away from New Orleans, so we're not sure where they were going.

This is a picture of the Causeway, which is in the Guiness World Book of Records as the longest bridge. It stretches from the south shore of lake Pontchartrain, which is New Orleans, to the north shore which is the Mandeville/Covington area. It's about 24 miles long, and looked like a little white hair from the air, but it didn't come across very visible in the picture. At all.

Feeding the Seagulls

This afternoon we noticed there were a few seagulls sitting on the dock, so we decided to start throwing them bread because if you start feeding a couple, it's not long before you have 20-30 on your hands and they'll catch the bread in mid-air. Then Scott starting throwing out whole pieces of bread into the water and the ducks got involved in the action and it got pretty contentious. The picture doesn't do it justice because you can't hear the screeching and squawking, but you can kind of get the idea.

New Year's Eve Fireworks

This is a movie of the New Year's Eve fireworks show outside our apartment. It was a half-hour show that went from midnight to 12:30 and during which Bridget refused to come out from under the bed.
